Although uniquely distinctive, the front cover, contents page and double-page spread of a magazine also have elements of synchrony within their conventions. Since I have been tasked to design and produce all 3 I think that it would be a logical idea to come up with an appropriate order in which to assign myself the tasks. The reason being that each component needs to carry the tone and visual flair of the other and so I will be required to maintain this consistency throughout.
The front cover establishes both visual style and tone. So it could be an option to work on the front cover first and then continue chronologically. But magazines are produced by gathering the articles first, and consequently I will construct my double page spread first. Therefore I can gain an understanding of what my focus will be on regarding the contents and front cover. As well as this it will enable me to come up with the article beforehand rather than just expand on a random cover line placed on the cover.
Next will be the front cover. This is because the contents page and cover are often visually connected in continuation of their chronological following. So to know how to design the contents page, I need to have completed my front cover. By the process of elimination, the last section to produce will be the contents.
